Hey Math Students,
Welcome to Quick Tips for Math Students! Quick Tips became a must-do when I realized that Math by Edison focuses on creating habits, a ‘slow learn’ versus the ‘quick results’ many math students crave. Also I wrote about quick results in ‘Get Rich Quick. Get Math Quick,’ which also influenced the creation of Quick Tips. And it became apparent that much of what’s out there is ‘quick advice.’ You know,
A 6-pack in 6 days
Get an A+ in 7 days
Be an influencer in 14 days
Become a millionaire in 30 days.
Quick Tips is a counter to all of that ‘Quick fix advice’ as it will give quick insights and practical advice that works, and you will remember. It gets you to understand more about yourself, your math teacher, and math. Here’s an example of a quick fix:
Cramming for test the night before is a quick fix.
Starting test prep the day the unit starts is not.
The best place to begin Quick Tips is with examples of 'quick to do' and examples of 'slow to do.'
Memorizing is quick to do but quick to forget. Understanding is slow to do but you will remember.
Your parent has probably discussed many of the Quick Tips I’ll write about (e.g. don’t skip steps, show your work, ask teacher for help). And know that if I write about it, that’s proof that many other students are doing it and it’s working.
In summary: Math by Edison focuses on habits and is geared to parents, and Quick Tips is for math students. However, reading both leads to a 1 + 1 = 3 situation (that’s Psychology stuff). I’ll save the explanation of that 1 + 1 for a future Quick Tips.
Wake up to a Quick Tips every Sunday morning - gets you a jump start to the math week!
