NEW since February 2025: 1-on-1 math and non-math strategy sessions.🚦
Sessions are for math and non-math students.
Hey Mathies,
In February 2025, I made it official and started offering two specific 1-on-1 strategy sessions to students. Hoorah me! The purpose? To help students get math and remember math!
I) Math strategy sessions* and II) Non-math strategy sessions**.
I’ve used these strategies in my math tutoring sessions with my students
since the 1990s but never had enough time to go deep with a beneficial strategy. Now I do 🙂! Now, it’s a designated coaching session with a student talking about how to strengthen a weak skill or habit they’re struggling with (e.g. creating habits or problem solving or procrastination, or how to study for a test or how to understand your teacher).
These are 45-minute sessions that focus on one strategy that you’re struggling with.
Sessions are 1-on-1.
Fee starts at $55 for a 45-minute session.

Who is it for? Of course, both I) and II) are for math students (grades 6 to 1st year university),
but II), the non-math strategies, is also for any non-math student or adult who needs to get stronger in one or more of these strategies.
The purpose? To help students get math and remember math!
*I) Math-strategy sessions focus on the strategies to get math. For example:
How to understand math?
What to do if you don’t understand your teacher.
How to do homework?
How to prepare for a test?
Steps to figure out tough questions when doing homework and on a test.
How to learn from mistakes.
How to remember math!
** II) Non-math strategy sessions focus on the strategies required to have the skills to do those math strategies in I) above. For example:
Problem-solving (steps to solve a non-math problem).
How to create habits.
Attaining a Goal.
How to be motivated when you can’t get motivated?
How to procrastinate less?
Becoming resilient (the skill of picking yourself up each time you don’t succeed).
Learn how to learn.
Note: These non-math strategies are transferable into other academic courses and non-math endeavors.
Strategy sessions requested by students or parents since February 2025
How to understand my teacher.
Steps to achieve my goal.
How to create up habits.
Why I procrastinate and how to reduce it?
Using a mind-map to solve a problem.
My teacher does not give notes. How can I take notes?
I don’t feel like doing math when I’m doing my homework.
How to prepare for a test?
Why do I need to do math, if my job won’t need math?
Strategy sessions focus on all the non-math stuff to get that math. I wrote a bit about this in a September 2023 post, Math isn’t what makes math hard!
Time to learn the non-math stuff that’ll help you get the math!
