Month 4 of 12: Journey to achieving my New Year's Resolution, 'I will write funny'.
Apr. 30 '24: I’m using skills and habits learned from math, to learn how to write funny.
What am I doing?
Writing words funny. Over my 12-month Resolution journey I’m documenting what ‘learning from math,’ looks like in another endeavour. And this non-math endeavour is one I’ve been weak in forever (I’m not funny), and I’m following The Learning 5 system. Welcome to Month 4 of 12. Here are my previous steps: Month 3, Month 2, Month 1, Start.
How do you get better at something you’ve never been good at?
I’m following the approach of,
The Input-Output-Machine of Life, Math, Learning & You three-part series (un, deux, trois). A Smile is the Output I’m striving for, and the Input is the words I use and rearrange that become funny.
A Smile is the Output I’m striving for.
The Input is the words I use and rearrange that become funny.
What did I set out to do in April?
Had two objectives …
1️⃣ Continue writing 1x to 2x/week on my blog, I write funny
Result/output? I only wrote once, on one Saturday, April 6 ☹.
Didn’t make it a habit!
2️⃣ I will write something funny for 25 of the 30 days in my notebook.
Result/output? I wrote 24 of 30 days - that’s 24 smiles 😄, 1 smile short of the objective! The better news is, that daily attempts to write funny is now a habit 🤩. I just wasn’t able to write funny on those 6 non-smile days.
May plan? Three objectives!
1. Aim to understand the fundamentals of ‘Improv’ and bring that way of thinking into I write funny (I signed up to an 8-week Improv class in April). My class has to do a show on May 30 … uh-oh … that will be a swell experience!!
2. Have ‘I write funny’ be more of a part of Math by Edison. Joy … and fun awaits everyone.
3. I will write something funny that will make me smile for 26 of the 31 May days.
Writing funny becoming a habit, yay!
Next up understanding the fundamentals of writing funny.
