Message to Math Teachers: “I like that he posts his notes online each day.”
“It's helpful as I never have time to copy it.”
I got the idea for ‘Message to Math Teachers’ while writing the Quick Tips article, ‘It’s a slip-up error that’s sort of not your fault.’ That article was based on an observation I had made hundreds of times and I felt it was a ‘little’ something that niggles and frustrates students, that teachers may not be aware of, and can be easily remedied.
“I like that he posts his notes online each day. It’s helpful as I never have time to copy it.”
This hope to have class notes posted online the same day their teacher teaches has been conveyed to me many times – I wish ..., Wouldn't it be nice …, Would help if ...
Backstory:
Several students are slow writers. For some, their teacher writes much too fast (faster than them). For numerous, math notes online become a significant benefit on the days they've missed a class as it helps them get back on top of the math quicker. For countless, it's an overwhelming dual-task to understand while trying to copy the teacher's notes.
When writing these messages, I'll pick one student and aim to convey their words and feelings. However, I am not a drama teacher or a literary genius, so I cannot make their words spring to life and mirror that student's feelings in that instant.
What I will do is deliver the message in a way that allows you, the teacher and reader, to take a 'walk in their shoes.'
This particular student was a slow writer and struggled with the demands of getting all the notes down, plus found it very difficult to make sense of the teachings while copying those notes. It was a godsend once her teacher started posting 100% of the class notes online at the end of each day. It was a stress reliever!
“I like that he posts his notes online each day. It’s helpful as I never have time to copy it.”

P.S. I will send these ‘Messages to Math Teachers’ once or twice a month on the Tuesdays/Wednesdays when I don’t write a Math by Edison article.
